Journal 8 Vietnam Idol

The article talked about a criticism on the television series Vietnam Idol. It showed a form of global popular culture appropriation. It uses global capital to control the show. What the show did with Phuong Vy really showed the power of the media. It can change the view of anything. It reminded me of the Gandhi article about where participation in the dominant culture can create some form of containment in the popular culture. The Vietnam Idol is sort of linked to American popular culture, and I feel like it shows some kind American influence. It shows America as a dominant society in the global view. It's a form of containment in the media that seems very covert until you start thinking about the issues and implications.
