Journal #13:“Alien encounters: Popular Culture in Asian America” by Robyn Rodriguez and Vernadette Gonzalez and Tony Loves Kelly

The article by Robyn Rodriguez and Vernadette Gonzalez is still relevant to this day where the more expensive the car and the number of cars symbolizes the status and wealth of that guy. Not only that but most foreigners use it as a way to integrate into American culture where they’re able to flaunt their wealth at others and hope to attract girls with their money. This kind of usage of their money gave them a stereotype in which most people would associate the large amount of cars and wealth as to that of international kids from China. This is at the very least the point of view of many from my own high school and from what I know it also means that they have very little to no social skills. This helped fuel the anger of the American auto industry at the Asian auto industry but ultimately I think that a man’s masculinity should only be defined through their personality and through material. In the second part of the film Tony loves Kelly it portrays the importance of family and how family and the bonds that are formed with it are more important than money. This film showed a great portrayal of how independent women can be when faced with the reality of being distant from her spouse and the kind of woman needed in a family that’ll help her husband realize the larger picture of what a family should be.
