Mobile Cultures

In “Mobile Cultures” Roy speaks about how social media is a connection force that brings together the connection of individuals and allow for individuals to become more aware of current issues. Technocultures that allows for the spread of messages and learning about the issues that affect people’s daily lives. This notion of bringing in a community that allows for individuals to relate among each other is very important because certain topics it may be awkward to bring up if it is more private. An example of that would be the LGBTQ community in the south Asian community because this is not what people perceive as normal to speak about hence this topic is not talked or touched upon on. I think that this article was very meaningful to read because it allowed me to reflect just how many policies in the American society has been reinforced to allow for these freedoms that are given to Americans. The idea of allowing the media to bring in closer attention to our society is ideal because so many people rely on that aspect to get around doing their own daily lives.

Kelly Loves Tony’s Film

In the film Kelly Loves Tony, there are many themes portrayed. It is seen that women of her ethnicity is to be expected to stay home and not have a degree and education but that is not true nowadays because in the film she tries to go against the odds of being rejected as a woman pursing education she still goes to college and wants to get her degree. Also on the same lines there are blurred gender roles of how she should be doing certain things female in their cultures do such as drinking the ginger tea when the mom told her to after birth. Kelly resists against her culture and what they portray as to be “right”.
