Aoki Film
In this film, there was a large emphasis on the mistreatment of the Asian
Americans in recent pasts. I thought it was interesting getting a first-person account
of the resistance events that occurred on the UC Berkley campus. It really
makes the concepts and struggles we discuss in class more impactful. The concepts
of resistance was quite drastic through some of the students actions. Although resistance
can take many forms, there are certainly ways that are more effective. I
thought it was funny when they discussed their choice to act violently to those
that tried to suppress them. But this demonstrates the conflict with everyday
acts of resistance we discussed earlier. Sometime going unnoticed through minor
acts of resistance is not effective to make large changes. But this presents
another questions of what forms of resistance is effective and what is not.
Deporting Cambodians
I really thought this article was interesting since deportation has been
a hot topic during recent political events. In many cases the problem that the
Cambodian Refugees faced still occurs to many other individuals today. I think
this can also be linked to what I was discussing about the Aoki film. The imprisonment
of refugees and then the immediate deportation of that individual is not
something that is easily opposed and controlled by a higher seat in the
government. In order to resist this, simple daily acts of resistance is not
very effective. The coordination of the AYPAL provides a larger voice and
unifying force of resistance for the youth. It is similar to the other reading
we discussed with Loatian girls and APEN. Individual resistance can prove ineffective.
By creating a unifying organization and banning together, the people are able to
have a stronger voice against the seats of power.
