Benito M. Vergara, Jr. “Betrayal, Class Fantasies, and the Filipino Nation in Daly City.” In Ethnographic Explorations of Asian America (pp.139-158).

In Betrayal, Class Fantasies, and the Filipino Nation in Daly City, Vergara talks about the Filipino culture in Daly city and how he feels the specific local cultures like the Filipino culture in Daly city should be included in the study of culture on a larger scale. The author also talks about the link between ethnicity and place, and how these two components are different still from nationalism and culture. There is also the returning theme of authenticity, this time relating to authentic Filipino culture. The article talks about how money and being located in the U.S. and therefore being influenced by American media and money is a challenge to the cultural authenticity as well. The classes within culture of Filipino people is also discussed. I am wondering If the notion of having a “homeland” as discussed in the text by Vergara is an issue of maintaining culture or making a new subset of culture; or if there is no one culture at all because there seems to be overlap in every case we have discussed so far.

Swimming is a low-impact exercise that even senior citizens can do. There are several swimming exercise that can be high-impact but simply swimming is very low-impact.
