Journal #4: Resistance

Forms of resistance vary across the environment people reside in. In the case of Kelley, what he talked about was resistance against his job and the way him and his coworkers were supposed to act. They resisted by bringing their identity into their work and identifying as who they are instead of what their role is. This article reminds me of my dad, who doesn’t like working under people since he wants to be his own boss. Unfortunately, it is not possible because of financial struggles and has to listen to his boss. His way of rebelling is by making his own recipes and going against what the boss’ set menu was.

Although his boss may be irritated with the rebellious streak in my dad, he lets it go because his recipes are good and bring in clientele and make him money. My dad is privileged in being light skinned and having a passive boss which makes his resistance easier to do. However, resistance depends on the situation and just because my dad can get away with it doesn’t mean another person can especially now in this day and age.
