Speak English!

Growing up I had the privilege of having teachers that spoke Spanish which people in the past didn’t. My school supported a bilingual education and my parents can be part of my education since most of the staff spoke Spanish. This article speaks about how many were against bilingual education as they thought that people in America should only speak English. Although we live in a progressive country that claims to be accepting of all cultures, its citizens are not very accepting.

There has been many viral videos of white people yelling at non-American citizens to learn or speak better English. I have always wondered why these people care about the learning of people learning English if they barely care about the education of low income schools. They yell at people who are trying their best at surviving in this world full of people who hate them and the fact that they add on to that insecurity is disgusting. They yell because they want to know what they are saying and the only way they’ll learn is by speaking English. They should take the time to learn their language but instead all they can learn is yell at them to “SPEAK ENGLISH!”
