Journal Entry #2

I completely agree with Antonio Gramsci when he states in The Prison Notebooks that everyone is a philosopher because everything we do and think is based off the notion that this exact thought or action is in my best action and that it’s best for me to do something a certain way. Psychology studies have shown that our personalities are formed roughly half from our genetics and the other half from the environment. Therefore I think that the environment acts as external stimulations and depending on our genes we react in certain ways thus creating our own way of life. Even though individuals vary on how public they are about their ideals, the actions they perform reflect what they believe, thus leading into a concept that Gramsci also pointed out about reflect and criticize our own beliefs and actions. People with “higher power” have influence over masses of people and our instinct is to follow suit but by questioning our own actions we won’t be blindly following the actions of someone else. In truth and power I do believe that the truth holds power but what’s significant about the truth is not the actual knowledge but of what you do with it. The truth can be bent and depending on how significant the information is it can change people’s beliefs and ideals. The reason why people look for truths is because it’s a known understanding that knowledge is power and the more you know the more powerful you are.
