Journal #3: Homeland Struggles

The double standards that Filipinos face in their country is surprising. If lower class workers leave the Philippines to make money to support themselves, they are seen as traitors. However, higher class people are seen as brave in leaving the comfort of their homes to a land where they're least likely to have servants. I don't understand this as lower class people are trying to make a living for themselves and their families and are literally leaving their home to go to a place where they have nothing. The article states that the rich are more likely to stay in another country and not go back, why aren't they seen as the traitors?
The author states that if a Filipino American doesn’t speak Tagalog, then they aren’t considered Filipino which is something that I’ve seen in Latinx communities. I never understood this because not speaking a language does not erase your race maybe how much you know of the culture but not the person’s race.
Question: Why are high class Filipinos the ones to most likely stay in America?
