Journal (6/1): Love and Honour and Pity and Pride and Compassion and Sacrifice- Nam Le

When I read Nam Le’s article I could really relate to how he felt growing up. Although my father’s not born from outside the country my mother is and acts exactly how Nam’s father does. My mom had moved from Taiwan for graduate school and left her home and everything she knew in order to get her master’s degree but never pursued a career due to my brother and I. My mom would always pick up after my brother, father and I at home when it comes to washing dishes and cleaning the house. I often forget about her sacrifice of leaving her home country in order to come to the US for a better life because of all the nagging that she gives me despite me knowing that she has my best interests in mind. However, even as went off to college I still hear from her trying to make excuses to talk to me and clean up for me. The life that she led taking care of me for 19 years was ingrained in her so when I left for college she had to completely change her lifestyle. Due to the sacrifices and transition to American life I truly my mom and what she has given to me despite what I find are annoyances about her.
